Mattie doesn’t believe in the paranormal/supernatural. At least, she didn’t believe such nonsense until she accidentally summoned Augustus. Now, she needs to figure out how to live with him until she can figure out how to unsummon him. But, also, apparently, not everybody is as they seem. Suddenly, she’s hyper aware of all the strange things happening around her. Mattie has to survive attending college as well as survive all these encounters with the otherworldly. She constantly tells Augustus to go to hell, but he has to tell Mattie he cannot go back to hell until her contract is fulfilled. Though, it helps when the nastier supernatural beings appear. Apparently, a lot of others are scared of the demon she summoned.
