Vulcan continues to struggle with her past. Kastroth, the Yaikesse who was forced to make a changeling contract with Vulcan during a cultist ritual years ago, torments Vulcan from within. Finally having enough, Vulcan breaks her contract with Kastroth, allowing him to run loose around the Empire. Vulcan's secret is discovered by one of the Empire's new allies, Hart. Hart makes a pact with Vulcan, promising to keep things under wraps.

Vulcan and her friends discover there's been an imposter who's been occuping the crown for several years. This imposter allows enemies of the empire onto the land and they are desperate to take Destiny Child for themselves. The three estates gather up for war, but Vulcan needs to search for her real father or the Destiny Child Empire will fall.
