Yule's town is besieged by a group of fanatics. Fatally wounded Yule is captured by the lunatics and offered up to their lord, the God of Death Izmus. Things go south and somehow Yule ends up signing a contract with the God of Death, a contract that will prevent his death in return for him serving as a gravedigger.

What implications this contract will have is unknown to any but the God of Death himself, but slowly Yule begins to understand how grim the world truly is. Join Yule as he begins to deal with the world of Death and is dragged into a thrilling series of adventures, tragedies and wars.

This new world is grim and dark, can Yule ever return to his once peaceful life in the light?
