The 'Roaring Twenties' are marred by the outcome of the Civil War. The Confederation's victory marked the beginning of a new political regime: servitude is still legal, while René Mantrousse's 'Slave theory' had become the country's new faith and code. However, the liberal youth believes that this flourishing will not last forever, and someday, after the oppression is over, everyone will find happiness. 

John Keyle - a political criminal, becomes a victim of a pointless chase after the alluring dream of true love, that was never destined to come true.
