After the Eve of Calamity, a once united empire lies fractured, its kingdoms distant and divided from one another. Neighbors; once friends, now bitter enemies. 

The common people face the looming threat of those who come from beyond the Known World, while the Royal bloodline deals with dangers both near and distant, as an imminent civil war begins to erupt while unrest festers at the empire's borders, threatening rebellion.
