Mark is a failure of society. 

When he's in college, he flunked out. He tried to go back but to no avail. 

No job, no social life, a NEET for 5 years.

"I'm done. I'm sorry Mom, Dad." 

He didn't want to waste any more money for him, so decided to find a very tall building for him to end "it".

While walking on the road, a kid in front of him,  while wearing a baseball glove drop a white ball in the road and chase after it. 

You look behind if there's a truck, it was close, then you smiled. "I might as well save someone before I go."

You run, grab, then push him back in the sidewalk, just in time to save the kid.
