The city of Mithrelle was once a pinnacle of science and prosperity.  After the Scouring, a purge of all technology and invention destroyed the city, and all genius was subjugated.  Strict control of all creations, whether steam, heat or mechanical was reigned in by  the ruling class, and licensed out by the rich and powerful.

Against this tumultuous backdrop, a young, naive horology prodigy is plucked from poverty and obscurity by a terminally ill ruler.  

The road to damnation is paved with good intentions.
